Siloam Springs

Here’s a fairly unknown dive site submitted by one of our readers.  Sounds very interesting:

This is the link to Siloam Springs state park east of Quincy, IL, near Clayton, IL. It is a little difficult to get into on the weekends this time of year, they have lots of fisherman there and the park office won’t let you dive when they are fishing.

Have dove it several times and the visibility really varies; sometimes it’s great 15-20 other times it’s more like 3 ft. Just depends on how much it’s rained. Max depth is about 43 ft, and it is spring fed. There are some old foundations of buildings on the bottom, and of course lots of fish; mostly catfish, trout, and bass.

The website doesn’t mention diving, but they really do allow it. You have to check in at the park office, sign a paper, and then check out when you leave. They also have a pretty nice campground!

Might be worth checking out if you have the chance, but I’d make sure to call ahead to see if they’ll let you dive. This past weekend we were told we could dive as long as we were out of the water by 9:30 am and we could’ve gotten in as soon as 5:30am. Not a bad deal considering it is FREE!!
